To follow you will find information about the procedures related to education for foreign or newly arrived persons. Including information documents and forms for school enrollment, change of school, school meal allowances, and regularisation and accreditation of studies.

Early Childhood Education. From 0 to 6 years

Early childhood education is the first type of schooling imparted on children. It may begin with nursery education for infants of only a few months. Early education is divided in two stages, the first spanning 0 to 3 years and the second, known as kindergarten, for 3 to 6 year olds. More information

Primary Education. From 6 to 12 years

Primary school is mandatory for boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 12 years. It is structured into three stages of two sessions each: Initial (6 to 8 years), Middle (8 to 10 years) and Upper (10 to 12 years).

Secondary Education. From 12 to 16 years

Secondary education (known as ESO) is compulsory and free. It is divided into 4 academic terms and generally begins on the natural year in which a student turns 12 years of age, and finishes at the age of 16. However, students are entitled to remain in the ordinary school regime until 18 years of age.

It is the academic upper education stage required for students between 16 and 18 years. It is a preparatory stage for either professionals or students before pursuing subsequent Studies or their careers.

Professional and Vocational Training

Specific professional training is organised in learning sessions, which provide the qualification needed to perform the tasks required by each profession. The sessions include classroom hours at an education centre and practical training hours in work centres.

Higher Education

To pursue a higher education or university degree it is necessary to have obtained a Baccalaureate degree or its equivalent academic accreditation. Additionally, anyone who turns 19 years may access university education by taking an admission test. Anyone with 18 years can be eligible for admission provided they have earned a valid technical degree related to the chosen area of study, and if corresponding admission test is passed.
