Exhibition room 9. Illness and Death

During his Barcelona years Picasso produced a number of works on the theme of sickness and death. Not many years before that Rusiñol had been one of the most conspicuous exponents of these discourses, both as a painter and as a writer.

Picasso engaged with the same themes, at times adopting approaches similar to those used by Rusiñol, although his handling of them is more claustrophobic and expressionist, and in some cases allegorical or even ironic.
