Exhibition room 5. The Artist's Condition.
L’auca del senyor Esteve

During 1962-1964, more than thirty years after Rusiñol’s death, Picasso made a series of free illustrations of L’auca del senyor Esteve, reflecting a revival of interest in Rusiñol’s vision of the relationship between the artist and society.

In this work, which is notable for its variety of techniques and media, including drawings, lithographs, lino prints and ceramics, Picasso seems to return to the Barcelona of his adolescence and youth, his interest no doubt intensified by his renewed association with the city on the opening of the Museu Picasso in 1963.
