Exhibition room 3. Rusiñol, transmitter
of Parisian Modernity

In September 1900 Picasso first set foot in Paris, where a number of years earlier Rusiñol had stayed on several occasions, his sojourns there marking a major turning point in the evolution of Catalan art.

Like any other artist in Barcelona at the time, Picasso had profited from the work of the modern, avant-garde Rusiñol, and in iconographic terms there are certain similarities between the pictures Picasso made during his first stay in Paris and the works by Rusiñol centered on the district of Montmartre.
