Sylvette David

(Boulogne-sur-Seine, 1934)

In 1954 the model Sylvette David met Picasso in Vallauris, where she was living, and sat for him, on and off, between late April and late June. Picasso had good reason to be especially attuned to child art at this moment, but the connection he drew between it and Sylvette was purposeful. The model’s immaturity and innocence influenced the artist.
