Pablo Picasso (atribuida). Jacqueline Roque en La Californie. Cannes, 20 de enero de 1958. Fotografía a las sales de plata. Fondo Jaume Sabartés. Adquisición, 2008. Museu Picasso, Barcelona © Sucesión Pablo Picasso, VEGAP, Madrid 2016

The Museu Picasso pays tribute to Jacqueline Picasso (known as Jacqueline Roque before her marriage to Picasso in 1961), thirty years after her death. Here Picasso’s muse and model is the protagonist in her own right: the art and documents exhibited give us a glimpse of her as both a patron and a photographer.

In the museum galleries, where for the last three years have housed the collection of ceramics she donated, offer the ideal space for this tribute. The set of ceramics, and the oil Woman with a bonnet, bear witness to her outstanding generosity and the deep affection she had for the Museum right from its inception. The selection of photographs reveals a little-known side to her: Jacqueline the photographer, a privileged chronicler of the artist’s private life and surroundings.

The works she donated, the photographs she took over the years she shared with Picasso and the wide range of documents, including letters and personal notes, she wrote offer us a unique insight on Jacqueline through her generous personality, her keen eye and her revealing inner voice.
