Picasso in the Barcelona of the 60s

  • Roundtable

In the late 50s and during the 60s, Picasso’s work and figure was not uniformly or homogeneously received in Barcelona: for some it was a figure of artistic importance that went beyond political considerations, and that Barcelona had to claim; for others it was the genius who symbolized the international rejection to Franco’s regime. This panel aims to explore the different interpretations that Catalan intellectuals did of the artist's work and its impact on the cultural development of the city.

With the participation of:

  • Jaume Vidal, historian and art critic
  • Jaume Aulet, professor of literature UAB
  • Joan B. Culla, professor of contemporary history
  • Enrique Granell, architect and professor of art history and architecture
  • Moderated by Sílvia Domènech, Head of the Documentation and Research centre
