The exhibition Picasso, the Photographer’s Gaze offers an immersion into Pablo Picasso’s universe through photography, a versatile form of expression that produces images so diverse that they possess all the facets of a creator who is at the same time author, model, witness and spectator of his work and life.

The gaze is an external “eye” that captures what others do not see, but it is also the artist’s vision of his own image and artistic practice.

This photographic tour from studio to studio aims to show the multidisciplinary richness of Picasso’s work, in which experimentation is always the priority, regardless of the technique and format employed.

From when he plays at being a reporter during one summer, to the use of his image as an icon, through to his inspired and playful self-portraits, Picasso always maintains a complex and intense relationship with photography and the photographers he allowed into his creative intimacy.

This exhibition, based on the artist’s considerable personal archives, presents more than a hundred vintage photographic prints and never before shown glass plates. The tour is made up of various chronological sections and thematic focuses, and is punctuated by major and unusual works: sculptures, paintings and drawings in conversation with the photographs.
