The Saint-Malo Declaration

From 29 to 30 October 2008, the General Assembly Summit of the Network of Regional Governments for Sustainable Development was held in Saint-Malo (France), the outcome of which was the signing of a declaration of intentions by the regional governments present, amongst which was Catalonia.

Attended by 650 delegates representing 99 regions and a further 30 decentralised governments, the Saint-Malo Summit of the Network of Regional Governments for Sustainable Development (nrg4SD) was a forum for the exchange of regional experiences in the fight against climate change and undertakings for the future.

Catalonia played an active part in the summit and was signatory to the Declaration, which highlights the key role of the regions in the implementation of climate change mitigation and adaptation policies, and the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities of the parties.
