Environment and Housing to buy CO2 emission allowances to keep Barcelona Climate Change Talks 2009 carbon neutral

Initial estimate is 500 tonnes of CO2 to be offset.

The Department of the Environment and Housing has bought 500 tonnes of CO2 allowances from the CO2 allowance exchange, SENDECO2, which is the amount it is estimated will be generated at Fira Gran Via during the Barcelona Climate Change Talks 2009, the last session prior to the Copenhagen Conference to reach an agreement to succeed the Kyoto Protocol. The aim of this initiative is to make the event carbon neutral.
