Progress made at the Barcelona Climate Change Talk

Significant progress was made at the Barcelona Climate Change Talks in regard to adaptation, technological cooperation, reduction of emissions due to deforestation in developing countries and mechanisms for distributing and managing funds for developing countries. However, no significant headway was made regarding medium-term reduction by the developed countries or on financing issues. Nonetheless, the parties voiced their concerns and expectations for each of the elements that currently make up the negotiation text, and made it clear that the objective is a quality agreement and not merely a document.

Also noteworthy is the fact that the policies and commitments fostered by regional governments in general, and those of the Catalan Government in particular, have been made known on an international level, and that the objective of keeping an explicit reference to the role of subnational and local governments in the negotiation text (shared vision) has been met.
