Department of the Environment and Housing grants to improve building insulation and energy efficiency saves 550 tonnes of CO2 in three years

The energy savings obtained vary between 5% and 55%, according to the type of construction.

The grants awarded every year by the Department of the Environment and Housing to improve insulation and energy efficiency in buildings in Catalonia have enabled a saving of 550 tonnes of CO2 in three years. According to data on the calls for applications from 2006, 2007 and 2008, the Department has helped to improve insulation and/or soundproofing and to install alternative energy sources in 4,539 homes, allocating close to 5 million euros in grants.

The energy savings obtained varied between 5% and 55%, depending on the type of construction. The total saving was 105.64 tonnes of oil equivalent and 550 tonnes of CO2, which represent an average saving of 14% following rehabilitation work.

The table below shows the energy savings achieved through insulation of dwellings with grants for the years 2006, 2007 and 2008:
