The Spanish pop landscape contains few composers with the originality and everlasting genius of Antonio Galvañ, aka Parade. His songs – a mixture of Kraftwerk, The Beach Boys and Gino Paoli, according to his own definition – are exercises in close-at-hand fantasy that humanise monsters and replicants throughout the universe. Materia oscura (2011) should be a sinister album, but (although it contains ghosts) it is in fact luminous, almost blinding, with a thousand refrains that are clear incitements to life.
